St Mary’s Church under the stars

November 28, 2009

Last night, I took my cousin and his girlfriend for a night tour of San Francisco which gave me some inspiration to go back out and take night shots when it gets a little warmer. That’s why I wanted to publish one of my night shots today.

This photograph was taken in the little village of Nicasio about 45 minutes north of San Francisco. Alex had spotted this church while biking and thought it would be a great night subject and he was definitely right! We went up on a warm spring night and sat up our tripods to take the church with the stars spinning above it. I really like the result. It is such a pretty church and the surroundings with green rolling hills are amazing. We also had the chance to be there while the moon as rising. You can see at the bottom right end corner of the photograph and it is a nice addition to the shot.

To make this photograph, I opened the shutter for about 16 minutes. I used my wide angle lens and I love the fun effect it creates on the sides of the photograph as it makes the church and the sign look like they are tilted.
